Job overview

The David Ross Education Trust is seeking to appoint a Governance Clerk to deliver high quality clerking services to Bobby Moore Academy based in the Olympic Park in London.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our governance team and work flexibly around a calendar of scheduled meetings. Successful candidates will have excellent communication and organisational skills, be able to work independently and able to organise their own time whilst working to strict deadlines. The role will include providing advice to governors on constitutional and procedural matters and providing effective administrative support under the guidance of our Director of Governance.

This role will enable you to gain unique insights into how schools are run at a very high strategic level, and how governance drives school improvement. You will be instrumental in making a difference, supporting strong governance of schools which will lead to changing the life chances of every child in our community and beyond. This is particularly relevant for those from the most disadvantaged starting points and those whose progress is stalled by challenging barriers, whatever they might be.

Working hours will be in the region of 48 hours per year, based on attendance at six meetings per year, preparation time and follow up. A calendar of meetings is published in advance and is available on request however Academy Scrutiny Committee meetings are typically scheduled in the afternoons from 4.30pm and are term time only. However, a flexible approach to working hours is essential as successful candidates may be required to service additional meetings in order to meet the governance needs of our Trust and its academies (Pupil Disciplinary Committees, Admissions Panels, Complaints Panels, HR Hearings) or to provide cover for fellow Governance Clerks in their absence. Specific arrangements will be discussed and agreed with successful candidates.

Attendance at schools for Academy Scrutiny Committees is essential however all administrative support activity can be undertaken at home. A laptop will be provided, and you will need to have access to the internet.
