Job overview

St Joseph Catholic MAT is seeking an enthusiastic, talented and highly motivated individual for the role of Governance Professional to join our growing Trust.

As part of our commitment to providing the best possible education for our pupils, we are expanding our Trust and this new role will help us deliver a strong and effective governance structure. This is an exciting opportunity for you to help support in the transformation of the educational landscape for children aged 2 – 16 across the Trust. You will be at the forefront of making a difference to children’s lives through supporting senior leaders within our academies.

As a key member of our Trust Central Team, you will principally support our volunteer Local Governing Boards (LGBs). Local governors play a pivotal role - and include parents and highly regarded members of the community – each of whom bring a wide range of commercial, professional and educational expertise to our academies. Your vital administrative, organisational and process support and advice will ensure effective and efficient governance at academy level that is consistent with Trust wide practice.

Responsibilities:

  • To clerk the Local Governing Boards - providing procedural, legislative and constitutional advice and guidance on governance related matters.
  • Work with the Governance Lead and local governors to develop effective governance structures, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that governance is aligned with the Trust’s strategic objectives, vision, and values.
  • Develop and manage policies and procedures to ensure good governance and compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Provide governance advice and support across the Trust, ensuring that local governors are trained and equipped to fulfil their roles effectively.
  • Maintain accurate records of Trust governance arrangements, including the appointment of trustees and governors.

Requirements:

• Proven experience in governance and compliance, preferably in the education sector.

• Strong knowledge of regulatory and legal requirements.

• Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

• Excellent communication and organisational skills.

• Commitment to the ethos and values of St Joseph Catholic MAT.

If you are passionate about good governance and want to be part of a Trust that is changing lives, please apply today.

Benefits of working with our Trust

There are many good reasons to work with us. We have a real sense of community and you will be a part of it. You will be part, too of the wider Archdiocese family and in the company of some of the best people in education. We also offer a variety of benefits, such as:

  • Competitive salaries and pay progression
  • Access to extensive professional development opportunities
  • Generous pension scheme
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Employee assistance programme
  • Competitive terms and conditions of employment

The list is not exhaustive and will grow as we the Trust matures.

St Joseph Catholic MAT is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Successful applicants will be required to undergo an enhanced disclosure and barring service check.

The role can be hybrid - working from home, combined with regular visits to the Trust offices on Mann Island, Regus in Liverpool. However, a key element of the role will require you to travel to the academies across the Trust as required, primarily to attend the LGB meetings (2 per term per academy, planned in advance), which may include late afternoon/early evening working.

For an informal discussion, please contact the Governance Lead, Carena Graham-Benson cgraham-benson@sjcmat.co.uk. We are keen to speak to candidates ready to take the next step in their governance journey, looking to develop and evolve as we will support further training for the right candidate. As much as we will support those at the beginning of their journey this role could also be perfect for an experienced candidate looking for that next steps toward Governance Lead.

The closing date for applications is 10 July 2023.
