Job overview

Halesowen College Corporation is seeking applications with regards to the role of Corporation governor. This is a voluntary but rewarding role and an excellent opportunity to join a forward thinking College board. The Corporation is particularly looking for candidates with backgrounds in Finance, Science or Digital vocations, however, broad business and education acumen are also desirable.

The College purpose is ‘to enable students, staff, the economy and the community to Learn, Succeed and Flourish’. The College delivers primarily to 16-19 year-old learners with courses ranging from Entry Level to Level 5, with a growing Higher Education Population. The College financial profile is strong and provision is judged Good by Ofsted.

The Corporation works to a governance framework whereby appointments are usually for one year in the first instance.  All appointments are subject to meeting set eligibility criteria and Governors are subject to the same responsibilities as those for charity trustees. Halesowen College is also an accredited Leader in Diversity and we welcome applications from all groups of society including those who are underrepresented.

Halesowen College, in the West Midlands, is a mixed further education institution. It accepts students from the age of 16 and has around 4,200 learners in attendance. The college offers courses of study in 11 subject areas and partners with three local higher education institutions.

Founded in 1966, Halesowen College regularly places in the top 10% of colleges for the examination performance of its students. The college offers a high level of support for students transitioning from school to higher education via its university centre, and via its long-standing partnerships with the University of Worcester and Newman University.

Halesowen College aims to give students a sense of personal responsibility for their own education. It believes that this is a necessary part of becoming an adult, and that it is excellent practice for university life and the working world.

The college also believes in giving back to the community, through activities such as litter picking in the parks, raising money for local charities, and collecting for the Black Country Food Bank.

The very good range of courses includes an increasing amount of relevant vocational courses and Train to Gain provision.
