From September 2020, Downside School has an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Assistant – Performing Arts. You will work closely with the Head of Department by providing technical support for the delivery of music, drama, dance and theatre activities which includes taking charge of technical equipment/production and backstage management. There may also be an opportunity to tutor individuals or small groups of pupils in ‘subject support sessions’ in an area of specialism and provide support to House Masters/Mistresses relating to pastoral care within boarding houses.

This is an exciting prospect for someone who is a graduate with an interest in entering the teaching profession or who is looking for professional experience before following a career outside education.

We are looking for someone who has:

 A relevant qualification (or equivalent professional experience) in Technical Theatre, Stage Management, Theatre Design or Drama, with a design/production specialism to degree level

 Experience of working with young people and engaging them in all aspects of technical theatre

You will have excellent the confidence and personality to engage with pupils and a passion about working with children in an educational setting. This is an ideal opportunity to experience an academic year in the life of a Catholic Boarding School, being fully involved in all aspects of School life.

Contractual Details

Salary: The post is accommodated, plus a pro-rated salary of c£11,652.20 for

a fixed term 10 month contract.

Hours: Full Time, from 2 September 2020 until 2 July 2021, with Independent

School Holiday breaks.

The post holder will be required to work flexibly to ensure proper

performance of duties, this will include evening and weekend work to

ensure service continuity.

Contract: Fixed Term for 10 Months
