Job overview

Have you recently graduated from university and not yet decided on a career? Would you like a paid internship working with a supportive and popular Family of Schools? As well as being proud to be a founding Trust of the National Institute of Teaching, which was founded to boost the quality of teacher and leader development nationally, we also offer careers in education support as well as areas such as Finance, HR and Estates.

Our Outwood Internship could be just the opportunity for you.

Outwood Grange Academies Trust is an education charity and not-for-profit sponsor of primary, junior and secondary academies. We are a dynamic organisation, and our Family of Schools in the North of England currently sponsors over 40 schools.

We are recruiting graduates who may have considered teaching or working within an education setting who wish to gain paid experience prior to starting either a teaching training course or other professional qualifications.

You will begin your journey on a full-time basis, working at one of our secondary academies in Barnsley. The initial role is for a period of one academic year and you will be involved in a range of tasks from providing pastoral support to supporting students with their studies in small groups and 1:1 tuition, to assisting class teachers across all departments including your specialism and getting involved with planning/delivering your own lessons! Upon successful completion of your one year’s internship, there will then be two pathways available to you - either an opportunity to join our teacher training programme to become a qualified teacher or an opportunity to become a member of our support staff either working directly with students or providing services to support their education.

You will receive training and professional support in a highly successful organisation. Whether you’re joining us as a support staff member, an ECT, in a leadership position, and everything in between, we will invest in you and your development throughout your time with the Outwood Family.

By all working together, supporting and motivating each other, we believe we can raise current standards, and transform the lives of our students. If, as a Trust, we support you to help you reach your potential, we can help ensure all the children whose education you will play a role in, will also reach theirs.

At the end of the year, graduate interns who progress to a further training placement with us will be paid a bursary of £5,000. After a successful second year, there will be an additional bursary payment of £7,000 along with a permanent role within the Trust.
