A teaching assistant position is the ideal role for those dedicated to honing their skills, building relationships and gaining a better understanding of the school system.  Previous experience working with children is essential, although not necessarily in a school setting; teaching overseas, volunteering, youth work, tutoring or mentoring will hold you in good stead for you application. Most important is a confident and enthusiastic nature coupled with a dedicated attitude.    

The Role 

This teaching assistant position open to aspiring teachers and will see you working full-time, 5 days per week with the opportunity to carry on into the following year dependent on circumstances. You will be working in a Year 1 classroom with a focus on Maths and English; responsibilities will include running a Daily Supported Reading group, one to one work, small group interventions and general teaching support. There is also ample opportunity to gain more responsibilities such as running after school clubs.

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Demonstrates successful experience of working with primary aged children.  
  • Can work as part of the staff team at the direction of the Class Teacher / Deputy Headteacher (Inclusion Manager) to support teaching provision and pupils' learning.  
  • Under the guidance of the Deputy Headteacher, have one to one responsibility to work with individuals and groups of pupils in class, and in the playground, including those pupils with additional educational needs to help them to achieve to the best of their ability.  
  • At the direction of Class Teachers, to help to organise activities, prepare resources and implement strategies for teaching and learning.  
  • Be familiar with lesson plans, Individual Education Plan targets and learning objectives.  
  • Observe pupils' performance, and using the systems in place in the school/class, provide the teacher with feedback on pupil progress in relation to provision.  
  • Are highly motivated and energetic • Have high standards and expectations  
  • Can supervise and manage children's behaviour effectively 
  • Relate to children with patience, kindness, firmness and good humour 
  • Deal with pupils in a positive and encouraging manner 
  • Have a passion for helping children develop their social and emotional skills 
  • Are able to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people

Located in Hornsey, North London, Campsbourne School is an inclusive, friendly school, served by excellent staff and supported by an established community of enthusiastic and dedicated parents, carers and governors.
