Ark Putney Academy opened in September 2012 as part of the Ark network in the London Borough of Wandsworth. We are a mixed school with 900 students, ranging from year 7 through to a successful sixth form.

In 2015 we moved into newly renovated buildings that bring the main Grade II listed building up to a modern, light learning space that provides state of the art facilities for our students and staff.

In our 2017 OFSTED inspection we were rated ‘Good’ in every category.

We are looking now looking to appoint a dynamic and effective Graduate Teaching Assistant to join the academy and support the needs of our students. As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will be an inspirational role model to our students and work with both teachers and the wider school community to establish a supportive and nurturing learning environment in which children make rapid academic progress. A willingness to provide some personal care may be required.

If you share our commitment to excellence, we want to hear from you!

Please submit your application by 9.00am on Tuesday 11 October

Interviews will take place on a rolling basis so early application is advised.

The academy reserves the right to close this advertisement early if we received a high volume of suitable applicants.

Applicants must be qualified up to Degree level and have passed Maths and English GCSE or equivalent at grade C or above/NVQ2 or higher.

Ark is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people in our academies. To meet this responsibility, we follow a rigorous selection process. This process is outlined here, but can be provided in more detail if requested. All successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

This post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and therefore the ability to speak fluent English is an essential requirement for the role.

Values and vision

At Ark Putney we have a holistic view of educating young people. Our mission statement is;

Preparing every student to be a pillar of any community

By this we mean that we are focusing on developing students to be the very best they can be in all aspects of their lives  not only through academic progress but also by developing the soft skills that will enable students to be successful in the world such as good manners and the ability to speak confidently combined with the desire to participate through sport, the arts and contributing to charity and community projects.

This can be illustrated by our core purpose, which is to provide students with:

  • An appreciation and curiosity for life and learning
  • The courage and ambition  to unlock and fulfil their potential
  • A desire to contribute to society in a positive way
  • A sense of self –awareness, combined with the integrity  to be compassionate towards others

The main drivers for this are our Six Pillars as listed below. These permeate academy life and can be seen in everything that we do, think and say at APA. They are also a focus of our assemblies, reflections and tutorial activities. They help to guide us in how we behave, what we do and what kind of people we want to be:

  • Effort
  • Team work
  • Community
  • Enthusiasm
  • Commitment
  • Independence

In March 2017, Ofsted rated the academy as good in every category and highlighted our students’ progress and achievement at GCSE and in sixth form. The full report can be read here.
