Job overview

Are you looking to use your degree to pursue a career in teaching? Are you ambitious to help young people with special needs achieve their very best?

We are looking for motivated graduates with a desire to develop teaching skills within our independent SEND school, and in our EK Outreach service, teaching children being educated in a variety of venues outside school, including their own homes

You will have empathy, compassion and a desire to work with SEND students, as well as a passion to develop the highest standards of teaching using our therapeutic and holistic approach.

About Us

Edith Kay is a small, but growing, independent special needs school. We are passionate about providing the very best education for our students, aged 14 to 19 who have autism, additional learning difficulties and complex needs, through a holistic and therapeutic approach. Our EK Outreach Service takes the same objectives to educate those students not currently in school. Our mission is to engage with children and young people to enable them to identify their own talents and strengths and to prepare them for a successful and enriched future where they can contribute to society around them, irrespective of their starting point.

The role

You will:-

  • teach a specialist subject(s) according to university degree or A Level subject,
  • benefit from training, professional support and guidance, including CPD
  • teach one to one or in small groups of no more than 4 students,
  • collaborate with other teachers, the curriculum lead and the wider team to ensure that our guidelines for best practice are implemented

Our successful candidates

You will be:-

  • highly motivated to achieve the highest possible teaching outcomes for our pupils in a nurturing and pleasant environment,
  • a recent graduate, or have graduated prior to last year and have worked as a teaching Assistant or elsewhere,
  • empathetic and interested in mental health, behaviour and social and emotional needs of young people,
  • patient, calm and composed in nature
  • willing and motivated to learn while working
  • competent in the use of technology, with a willingness to use this in your teaching
  • an excellent communicator

We would welcome applicants with a degree in psychology, education or mainstream subjects including maths English, art, modern languages, science and history.

We particularly value applicants who can demonstrate a real passion for working with young people with special needs, disabilities and mental health issues and would also encourage applicants with a wide range of experiences for this very unique teaching post.
