Job overview

Shapwick School is an independent school for day and boarding students in rural Somerset.

We are looking to employ a Grounds Maintenance Worker to support the Estates Team with the following duties

  • Grounds Care
  • Waste Management
  • Gardening
  • General Estate Duties
  • Supporting the Maintenance Team with other duties when required

The successful candidate will be required to work 5 mornings per week on a flexible basis, to include some Saturday mornings, throughout the full calendar year.


This position is initially for a fixed term of one year.

Shapwick School is situated on the delightful Somerset levels, near to the coast, the Mendips, Quantocks and Exmoor.  As a CReSTeD category ‘SP’ School, Shapwick specialises in supporting boys and girls aged 8 to 18 years whose education has been adversely affected by dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia.  We employ a team of specialist teachers, speech & language therapists and occupational therapists who deliver to small classes (average size is 8) and individuals.

As one of the first specialist schools for children with dyslexia, dyscalculia and dyspraxia the school is very proud of its staffs’ experience at understanding each child’s individual needs and helping them to grow into confident, skilled and happy adults ready to take the next stage in their life.
