Founded in 1646, Reading Blue Coat School is a leading independent day school of 490 boys aged 11 – 16, with a further 270 students in the co-educational Sixth Form. Set in a beautiful country estate of 46 acres of pristine sport fields, grounds and woodlands overlooking the River Thames in the village of Sonning, just outside Reading, we provide a wonderful working and studying environment.
The School employs over 170 staff and offers a stimulating, friendly and supportive environment in which each pupil can realise his or her full intellectual, physical and creative potential.
We have an opportunity for a Groundsperson to join our small and highly motivated Grounds team. Reporting to the Grounds Manager, your main focus will be the upkeep of a multiplicity of grass sports pitches, mainly used for rugby (autumn), football (spring) and cricket (summer). Working as part of the team, you will also assist in ensuring the estate grounds, gardens, woodlands and amenity areas are maintained to the highest standards.
Candidates should be accomplished in sports pitch preparation; be proactive; work with good attention to detail and a high level of enthusiasm. You will be competent in the operation of a wide range of light machinery.
It is desirable that candidates hold a NVQ Level 2 Sports Turf qualification (or equivalent), although do not let that deter you if you do not have that as practical experience is equally valued.
We offer an excellent pay and benefits package, including 33 days holiday (plus additional discretionary days leave); pension scheme with 8% employer contribution; free meals and refreshments on duty; free leisure facilities; and a wide range of other employment benefits.
Working hours are Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 16:30, and some Saturday mornings on a one in three rota to support sports fixtures.
