Job overview

Working arrangements: All year round position, 40 hours per week (Monday - Friday, working on a rota basis of early/mid and late shifts. The earliest shift will commence at 7:30am and the late shift will end at 6:00pm.

We are looking to recruit a confident, passionate and nurturing individual with previous experience as a Room Leader to work in Hallfieldfirst, Hallfield School's nursery provision for children aged 3 months to 3 years. We are also open to considering applications from experienced Nursery Nurses looking for the next step in their career. Applicants must hold a relevant Level 3 qualification in childcare, a current Paediatric First Aid certificate (or willingness to be trained) and be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.

Previous experience of having worked as a Room Leader would be advantageous, however the ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate supervisory skills and the ability to work independently, using their initiative. The ability to communicate effectively with children, colleagues and parents is essential.

The key responsibilities of a Room Leader include, but are not limited to:

  • To support and liaise with the Nursery Management team regarding the day to day operation of the room.
  • To be a role model to other practitioners, demonstrating excellent practice, a positive attitude and offering guidance and leadership within the room.
  • To lead and motivate other nursery staff in planning, implementing and evaluating a range of activities and experiences suitable for the development of all the children in accordance with the EYFS framework so that all children benefit from meaningful learning.
  • To ensure that care practices in the room are highly effective in meeting the unique needs of the children, supporting their emotional security and developing their physical and emotional health.
  • To oversee the observational records of the children in the room ensuring that they assess what children know and can do, are kept in accordance with agreed policy and that they are used effectively to inform each child’s next steps for learning.
  • To support with building positive relationships with parents that encourage trust, open communication and involvement in Nursery life.
  • To work in collaboration professionals to ensure the best possible care and learning for the children.
  • To ensure that all room staff demonstrate high expectations for children’s behaviour, apply agreed guidelines consistently and fairly and that appropriate action is taken to support any children who have difficulty regulating their behaviour.
  • To ensure the smooth running of induction sessions for new children within the room and the smooth transitions of children within the setting.
  • To support the development of the Nursery by leading and taking responsibility for an agreed area.
  • To attend and support the Management team with open days.
