Sherborne Preparatory School

Appointment of Head of Sherborne Preparatory School

On 1 April 2021, Sherborne Preparatory School (SPS) will merge with Sherborne School and become part of the Sherborne School Group. The merger formalises the existing close relationship between the two schools and will enable SPS pupils, staff and parents to enjoy the very significant benefits which come with being part of a larger organisation.

Nick Folland, the present Headmaster of SPS, has announced his intention to retire after six years of outstanding service, and the School now seeks an exceptional new leader. The new Head will lead SPS into an important and exciting new chapter in its history, establishing it as a thriving member of the highly successful Sherborne family of schools. Reporting to Dr Dominic Luckett, Headmaster and Chief Executive of Sherborne School, the appointed candidate will have an exciting opportunity to develop an outstanding prep school and contribute to the broader success of a high performing organisation on a dynamic upward trajectory.

The successful candidate will bring a strong track record of impact as a senior leader, substantial experience of 3-13 education and a clear understanding of the opportunities and challenges shaping the independent prep sector. He or she will combine good natural leadership skills with a strong sense of team and the collaborative instincts to flourish and contribute as part of a family of schools. Outstanding interpersonal skills with the capacity to act as a compelling ambassador for SPS with parents, prospective parents, senior schools and other stakeholders are essential.

Completed applications should be uploaded at: https://candidates.perrettlaver.com/vacancies/ quoting reference number 4778, where you will also find further information. The closing date for applications is 08:30 GMT on Thursday 11 February 2021.

Sherborne Preparatory School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful candidate must be willing to undergo an enhanced disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Sherborne is a boys’ independent school situated in the shadow of Sherborne Abbey. Founded by Royal Charter in 1550, the school has roots going back to the origins of the See of Sherborne in 705. There are eight boarding houses accommodating a total of about 550 boys (aged 13-18). Sherborne School is an extraordinary community with a rich heritage and ambitious outlook.  The boys are talented, engaged and interesting, and staff are likewise.  The co-curricular provision is of outstanding breadth and quality.
