Job overview
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated school librarian to lead our library team across the Wellington College Hangzhou campus.
The college comprises three schools - Huili Nursery Hangzhou, Huili School Hangzhou and Wellington College International Hangzhou – and has five physical libraries and an eLibrary. These cater to pupils from 2-18 years-old, in addition to staff, faculty and parents.
The Head Librarian is responsible for leading the library team in managing the day-to-day functions of the libraries, as well as planning strategically for the future as the college continues to grow. The Head Librarian must be highly-collaborative to ensure the best services, collections, environment and people possible for our pupils. In addition, they should be able to take the initiative and lead the department with a clear vision towards developments in school library best-practice with an understanding of current contexts.
The campus libraries have an enthusiastic following among our pupils, with some visiting the library nearly every lunchtime to browse, read, take part in activities or complete homework projects. There is a growing Junior High Reading Club that helps promote library offerings and events to our pupils. Pupil choice is an important feature within our libraries, and the library team work to ensure a diverse bilingual collection in both form, style and content.
The Head Librarian leads the instructional elements of the library, including library skills, information literacy and reading engagement. Most pupils visit the library on a weekly basis in addition to point-of-need sessions.
