Pangbourne College are looking to recruit an outstanding Head of Academic Music. By your example and leadership you will ensure growth and exam success for our pupils in Music.  

An excellent classroom practitioner, you will bring passion and enthusiasm to the role along with the ability to teach proactive and focused lessons for all age groups. Experience of teaching KS3, GCSE and A Level music is essential. You will hold a relevant degree along with the desire and dedication to ensure high standards of pupil progression and attainment.

With this role you will lead and develop Academic music, working closing with the Director of Music and Head of Instrumental Music. The aim is to build a rigorous learning environment that will encourage and equip pupils of all abilities to achieve their very best outcomes.

We have a strong musical heritage at the College and are able to offer specialist musical teaching from our new purpose-built Music School. The College is an All Steinway School and has Steinway pianos in all our musical facilities including the Falkland Islands Memorial Chapel. The Department runs a number of choirs, bands, and other ensembles, giving plenty of opportunity to fully involved in practical and creative musicality.  

You will have strong people and administrative skills to provide strategic direction and development of Academic music within the College, cultivating teaching and learning by ensuring high expectations of staff and pupils within a happy and purposeful environment. You will possess good keyboard skills and possibly be able to play the organ. We welcome applications from candidates in either the state or independent sectors.

Ideally located

The campus is set in 230 acres of beautiful West Berkshire countryside, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and yet we are just 10 minutes from Junction 12 of the M4 motorway. We are also on the mainline rail network between Oxford (30 minutes) and London Paddington (45 minutes). Daily school transport services are available from Ascot, Basingstoke, Henley/Wargrave, Maidenhead, Newbury and Wantage.

Highly rated

In November 2019, the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) rated the college as ‘Excellent’ for both the academic and personal development of its pupils. It said: ‘Pupils demonstrate exemplary attitudes to learning: they respond to academic challenge with energy and purpose.’

In June 2021, we were shortlisted for the ‘Co-educational Independent School of the Year’ category in the Independent Schools of the Year 2021 Awards.
