Job overview
We are looking for a well-qualified Teacher of Art to join this popular and rapidly expanding independent senior school for boys.
The position is part-time (around 40%) and would involve teaching up to A Level.
The Cedars is an exciting new 11-18 school for boys. Working here will offer the right candidate excellent opportunities for career development and creativity. We take professional development seriously and we strive to support every teacher to become the best that they can be.
We promote a knowledge-rich curriculum and place a high priority on creating the conditions within which teachers can share their passion and expertise with our pupils. Exam results have been good so far and we expect them to improve even further over the next three years.
The school has a varied co-curriculum to which most teachers contribute. Sport is strong and The Cedars has an excellent record in its three main competitive sports of rugby, football and cricket. We are the only school in the UK to have a formal link with Real Madrid Football Club and we have links with other schools in every continent. Music is growing quickly and debating is increasingly popular; indeed, we are hosting the London Regional Final of the ESU National Debating Competition 2018. Seminars and music recitals take place at school every week.
The School has a Catholic ethos and places strong emphasis on helping its students to acquire virtues such as self-discipline, a sense of responsibility and a spirit of generous service. Pupils are given opportunities to be of service to others in the community.
The school was founded in 2013 and there are currently 173 boys on roll from Years 7 to 12. Cedars is becoming an increasingly popular choice, attracting boys from a large geographical area - including parts of north London - and growth has been rapid.
We are situated in an attractive parkland setting with generous playing fields at the rear. Most teaching takes place within a fine Georgian listed building but other buildings on site have also been developed and a new physics laboratory opened in November 2017. The school is in discussion with planning authorities with a view to further expansion of the school site by 2020. Lloyd Park tram stop is close by and there is a frequent tram service from there to East Croydon Station.
The deadline for applications is Monday 26th February 2018 at 4.00pm. Further details are available from Mrs L Sales, Headmaster’s PA, on 020 8185 7770 or E-mail: lsales@thecedarsschool.org.uk
The Cedars School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

About The Cedars School
Welcome to Fidelis College
Co-ed from September 2025 for ages 4-18
Oakwood, The Cedars and The Laurels Schools are transitioning to a Co-ed through school, with a continued emphasis on character formation alongside academic excellence, underpinned by a Catholic ethos.
At Fidelis College, all our Staff see themselves as vital partners with parents in the education of their children. The basis of this partnership is loyal, mutual understanding of each other’s complementary roles.
At Fidelis College, we pioneer a personalised tutorial system. The tutorial system seeks to integrate the pursuit of academic excellence, life skills and the integral development of the student’s character through the pursuit of virtue and noble ideals.
At Fidelis College, character education is rooted in school life. We emphasise the acquisition of virtue, those good habits – habits of mind, habits of heart and habits of action - that help us to become morally mature and self-directing in life – to be truly free. Freedom not seen as mere freedom from constraints but as a capacity to carry noble convictions into action. To acquire virtue, we need guidance and practice and at Fidelis these virtues are taught within the perennial values of the teachings of the Catholic Church.
