Hangzhou Dipont School of Arts and Science (formerly RDFZ King’s School Hangzhou) is seeking a Head of Art to inspire and guide teachers and students as they work together to form a world-class learning community.

Reporting to the Director of Teaching and Learning and the School Executive Committee, the Head of Art will serve as a role of model of outstanding teaching practices for all staff. The successful applicant will also have oversight on all related curriculum areas, including both English and Chinese National Curriculum.

About the Role

Operating in a whole school capacity, the Head of Art will lead a passionate and dedicated team of Art educators consisting of both Chinese and International teachers. A strong curriculum offering is complemented by our extensive house and co-curricular programme, requiring coordination with other staff supporting the art programme.

The Head of Art fulfils several important management roles. This person is responsible for the effective organization of the curriculum program and contributes directly to formation of and reflection upon policy initiatives. This includes leading the department through curriculum conversations to enhance the learning experiences and learning spaces for all students.

Working in close partnership with management and administrative staff, the Head of Art has oversight over all teaching within the department through the coordination of schemes of work and the publishing of a comprehensive subject handbook. The Head of Art also participates in the selection, appointment, review and appraisal of all departmental staff.

  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience
  • Management Experience
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Skilled in Instructional Planning, consultation, coordination and general teaching competencies
  • Previous experience with educational evaluation strategies

About the Package

Hangzhou Dipont School of Arts and Science aims for world-class standards in teaching and learning. The salary and benefit package for this important position is commensurate with these aims.

In addition to a highly competitive salary, the package includes high-quality housing, flights for employee and dependents, and medical insurance for employee and dependents. Full tuition support will be provided for any successful applicant with school-age children.

The position will be offered on an initial three-year contract term with annual renewal thereafter.

About Hangzhou Dipont School of Arts and Science

The campus consists of: 

  • A pre-school for pupils aged 3 to 6 years catering for Chinese and expatriate children, offering a bilingual programme based on international and Chinese curricula. 
  • A Chinese elementary and junior high school for Chinese students in Grades 1 to 9 who study the mandatory Chinese curriculum delivered in both Chinese and English, with a modern pedagogical approach and additional English language instruction. 
  • An international section for expatriate students from Grade 1, offering a British style curriculum leading to IGCSEs with additional Chinese language instruction. 
  • An international college for both Chinese and expatriate students, providing IGCSE and A Level courses with potential for the IB Diploma Programme to be implemented in the future.

The brand new campus provides first-class, modern school buildings and state-of-the-art facilities including a large multi-purpose sports hall, a 50 metre indoor swimming pool, fitness centre, playing fields, 400m running track, performing arts auditorium with a capacity for 800 people and boarding facilities. The campus sits on the side of a lake which potentially can be used in the future for water based activities.
