Job overview

Head of Art, to include possible 2nd in Creative Arts Faculty, salary negotiable (TLR 2B to be awarded) to join us in January/April 2020.

We are looking for a confident, inspirational and talented teacher of Art, with the vision and drive to motivate and enthuse pupils, building on the successful foundations that we have already created in the Creative Arts Faculty. This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly motivated professional to play a key part in one of our creative subjects.

We are looking for a creative, passionate and energetic teacher who can work with us as we strive to bring about further progress in a popular subject across the whole Academy. Over the past few years; GCSE and A Level Art have continued to be successful at Westfield Academy. 71% of students achieved a 4-9 grade at GCSE and 80% A*-C at A Level. Or results have been consistently on or above the national average, and we want to now move beyond this benchmark. Further opportunities are available as 2nd in Faculty for the right candidate.

At Westfield Academy, we are committed to developing an academic culture where the highest standards are expected of staff and students. The Head of Art post will involve the following, with applications welcome from strong candidates able to:

  • Teach and understand the requirements of Art, Craft and Design at GCSE and A-Level, additionally the ability to teach Design Technology or Photography would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students • Support colleagues and the subject area as appropriate.
  • Monitor and support the overall progress and development of students • Provide a motivating and structured learning experience, which will provide all students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential.
  • Contribute significantly to raising standards of students' attainment as a teacher and form tutor.

The successful candidate will be a highly committed and consistent team player, with a true passion for Art and an understanding of the strategies required to motivate and inspire students. They will play a part in promoting the subject throughout the school. We are looking for someone who understands the value of high-quality assessment and uses this to drive planning and progress.

The successful candidate will be expected to draw upon the latest resources and teaching methods in delivering Art across the ability range at KS3 and KS4. As students are increasingly choosing Art at GCSE, our exam cohorts are increasing, and we wish to continue this growth.

We would welcome applications from any teacher who is keen to immerse themselves in a hardworking, supportive, forward looking faculty.

The quality of teaching has improved and the curriculum in Key Stages 4 and 5 is better suited to the needs of pupils. Subject leaders have a clearer understanding of the quality of teaching in their areas because they spend time monitoring pupils’ progress. Pupils make good progress.
