Job overview

Required for September 2022

Rossall School is among the most successful and prestigious independent boarding and day schools in the North West with flourishing pupil numbers.

A dynamic and experienced practitioner is required to lead the Biology Department from September 2022. The successful applicant will be an outstanding leader with a strong commitment to ensuring that all pupils within the department achieve excellent examination results (from a value-added perspective) and develop a lifelong interest in and love of the natural world.

The position of Head of Biology offers an exciting opportunity to lead experienced colleagues who are working together to create a stimulating teaching and learning environment with an emphasis on independent learning and progression from senior school all the way to University.

The Science Faculty consists of 11 teaching members of staff and a number of technicians. The individual sciences are taught from Year 9 and the majority of pupils sit GCSEs in the three separate sciences. Biology, Chemistry and Physics are popular options at both A Level and within the IBDP. The Department works closely with the Rossall School Space Centre headed up by Dr Nick Lister.

Classrooms are well equipped with good audio visual resources. The subject is well resourced and members of the department work collaboratively to share good practice and track students’ progress.
