About Brighton College Prep School

Brighton College Prep School is the main feeder school to Brighton College, the leading co-educational school in the UK, renowned for its innovative education, whilst placing kindness  and community at the heart of their approach to education. Named ‘UK School of the Decade’ by The Sunday Times in November 2020, Brighton College educates 1,400 pupils aged 11 to 18 and the Prep School educates 400 pupils aged 3 to 11.

Brighton College Prep School provides an inspiring education that aims to prepare  pupils for life in our College and beyond, helping all children to believe in themselves  and to excel in their own individual way. This teaching philosophy allows pupils to  be individual, whilst enabling them to develop and progress at a rate above and beyond their own expectations.

Within each year group teachers aim to give pupils the best possible start to life,  both in their academic grounding and in developing their values and beliefs. The school motto is well known by pupils, who pride themselves on embodying:

Be Kind.

Be Curious.

Be Confident.

Be the best you.

The school is based on two sites within the vibrant city of Brighton; on the Prep site we educate pupils from Nursery to Year 4, while pupils in Year 5 and 6 form the Upper  Prep on the College site.

Pupils benefit from use of facilities at the College, including the Chapel, the Music  School and Recital Hall, the Home Ground, the School of Science and Sport, the dining facilities and The Richard Cairns Building, a stunning new performing arts complex, with a 400-seat theatre, professional Dance Studio and Drama Black Box. Our sports fixtures are played at the Jubilee Ground pitches located nearby in the South Downs.

Our approach to education is regularly celebrated. As well as being named 'UK  School of the Decade', Brighton College has been named ‘School of the Year’ twice by The Sunday Times. The Week named the Prep School runners-up in their ‘Best for Kindness' award in 2024 and we were shortlisted for the Independent Schools 'Prep School of the Year' award in 2024 and for the Tes 'EYFS Setting of the Year' award in 2023. We also won a City Kids silver award in their Green Awards 2023.

Our most recent ISI inspection in November 2024 gave us a glowing report and two areas of 'significant strength', the first highlighting the brilliance of the school's enriching curriculum, activities programme, focus on academic excellence and co-curricular programme.

The quality of relationships across the school was also clear to the inspectors, as the culture of kindness throughout the school was identified as our second 'significant strength'.

Most importantly, Brighton College is a happy school. Staff and pupils feel fulfilled, and our emphasis on kindness lends itself to a thriving intellectual, sporting and performing arts culture. Our location in the city gives us the best of all worlds: we’re five minutes from the sea and the city centre, ten minutes from the South Downs, and in the heart of the local Kemptown community. We hope that you will want to come and join the fantastic group of professionals who work here.
