Head of Boys PE

The Royal School is  seeking to recruit a first-class practitioner who is ready to embrace the role of Head of Boys PE, working with our pupils to inspire and enthuse them, enabling them to achieve their very best.  As Head of this important Department, the successful candidate will be able to lead and develop their team to achieve outstanding results. Expertise in hockey, football and cricket is essential, and experience of rugby and Duke of Edinburgh would be welcome. The position reports into a Deputy Head, excellent communication and data skills are essential characteristics to work effectively on a day-to-day basis. 

The role involves leading the delivery of Games at KS3, GCSE and A level, and teaching PE Theory at GCSE and A level. The Senior School is at Haslemere and has a full-sized sports hall, 3 outside courts (one floodlight), a lacrosse pitch, practice pitch and a fitness gym. A new astro-turf is being planned, as well as other facilities such as an innovation and creativity hub, including a recording studio, editing suite and green screen. The Head of Boys PE will have an exciting opportunity to play a part in the development of lessons and activities that will utilise these both from an academic and extra-curricular perspective. 

The Royal School has mixed ability pupils, therefore the role entails working closely with the High Achievers Coordinator, SENDCO and other Heads of Department in developing strategies and continued growth in value added. Wider co-curricular activities are a large part of our pupils’ experience. The Head of Department will help drive the Sports Leaders programme and have the chance to introduce new offerings.  

We are currently introducing a major digital teaching strategy across the Senior School focused on the Microsoft platform. All teachers have Surface Pros and pupils will soon be using Surface Gos throughout daily lessons. The Head of Boys PE will be interested in the transformative opportunities of using tech effectively in the classroom and in exploring its wider use in the subject.
