Job overview

The Board of Governors of Bristol Grammar School is seeking to appoint an outstanding leader for the post of Head from September 2018.

Founded in 1532 and situated at the heart of the City of Bristol, adjacent to the University, the school has a proud history and tradition of excellence.

It is one of the leading independent day schools in the country and enjoys a strong national reputation as a co-educational school that supports and challenges children and young people, aged 4 to 18, to achieve the highest academic and personal standards.

The post has arisen due to the impending retirement of the current Head Mr Roderick MacKinnon, who will have given the school 10 years of exceptional service, recognised most notably in a judgement of all-round excellence by an ISI inspection team in October 2015.

Following on from Mr MacKinnon's lead, the governors are keen for BGS to play a role within the wider educational sphere and are looking to recruit an individual who shares this vision. The school has a fantastic range of facilities that fully support academic and co-curricular breadth and provide an environment in which young people can discover their talents and realise their potential. A testament to the school's success is the thriving alumni society, which has a global reach.

This post represents an exceptional opportunity for a talented and experienced educational leader who can continue Bristol Grammar School's tradition of excellence as we look forward to our 500th anniversary in 2032.

Full role job details and an application form may be obtained from the School’s website: http://www.bristolgrammarschool.co.uk/Job-Opportunities/Leadership-Posts.aspx

Candidates should submit a completed application form with a covering letter and monitoring form, addressed to the Chair of Governors Romesh Vaitilingam, which should be sent via email to Miss Cath Davies, PA to the Head at cdavies@bgs.bristol.sch.uk
