Job overview
The successful candidate would be expected to run this subject area ensuring the successful delivery of the new Edexcel specifications introduced in 2015. Business and Economics is only taught at KS5 currently and therefore the Head of Department is also the only deliverer of both subjects.
The use of ICT in delivering Business and Economics is good and constantly reviewed. Class sizes are small with the maximum number of students being 15. Results are excellent and students regularly achieve above and beyond their target grades. There are a growing number of students opting to take Business and Economics at A Level and the successful candidate would be expected to ensure this continues. A large number of students go on to study Business/Economic degrees at some of the top universities after their A Level studies.
The person appointed should show and demonstrate the following skills and qualities:-
- Experience of running a department
- Experience of teaching both Business and Economics
- Inspirational teacher
- Well organised
- Calm under pressure
- Innovative
- Act as a good role model to staff and pupils
- Able to demonstrate strong leadership skills but also works effectively in a team alongside other Heads of Department
- Show good planning skills and effectively uses data to do this
- Clear understanding of national and whole College issues that impact upon Business and Economics
- Ability to carefully manage the department budget
- Organise and run visits to enhance and enrich the curriculum
- Deliver and run the Young Enterprise Company Programme to Lower Sixth students
- Deliver and run the Year 9 Enterprise club
