A fabulous opportunity has arisen to lead the Business Studies department at Highfields School. Ideally the candidate will have experience of teaching Computing as well as Business Studies.
Highfields is a vibrant and popular school with approximately 1300 students, including 200 in our sixth form. Our students are friendly and highly motivated.
Business Studies is a thriving part of our school. We offer Business Studies at GCSE and BTEC Level 3. The curriculum is rich and challenging and focuses on building students’ enjoyment and interest along with the knowledge and skills required for examination success.
For a September start, we are looking for an outstanding practitioner. The successful candidate will be resourceful, inspirational and forward thinking. You will share our vision of achieving excellence and raising further the standards of teaching, learning and achievement.
We wish to appoint a colleague to this post who has:
- A strong background in Business Studies, ideally including experience of teaching to BTEC Level 3 / A level
- Experience of teaching Computing would be highly advantageous
- A passion for teaching, and a track record as a highly effective classroom practitioner
- The ability to inspire and motivate students and colleagues to achieve their best
- Highly effective interpersonal, communication, management and leadership skills
- A commitment to professional development
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Highfields is situated in Matlock, the county town of Derbyshire, on the south eastern edge of the beautiful Peak District National Park. It is within easy reach of Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham.

About Highfields School
Highfields School is a vibrant, popular, mixed, non-denominational, mainstream secondary school in Matlock, Derbyshire. It caters to students aged 11 to 18 and has approximately 1,200 students including 250 at post 16. Our students are well-motivated and achieve good results. We were judged as a good school by Ofsted in May 2017. Highfields is situated in Matlock, the county town of Derbyshire, on the south eastern edge of the beautiful Peak District National Park. Highfields School was founded in 1982 when Ernest Bailey’s Grammar School and Charles White Secondary Modern School merged. It is known for performing arts. The school is located on two sites that are 1.8 miles apart: one for the lower school (Years 7-8) and one for the upper school (Years 9-11 and the sixth form).

The secondary school specialises in performing arts, but offers a broad and balanced curriculum that covers core subjects such as English, maths, science, philosophy and RE, and PE. Extra-curricular activities are also considered important and a wide variety of clubs and teams explore arts and sports.
