Homerton is a large Centre comprised of a maintained local authority nursery school, provision for two year olds, wraparound care provision and a Children’s Centre, which is jointly run with a local federation of primary schools. The highly effective staff team of over 30 are committed to providing the best for children and families and have a keen interest in continuing professional development. The Centre has close links with the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge and is a member of two different Teaching School Alliances. We are proud of our Outstanding Ofsted rating, our national reputation for delivering high quality training across all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage, and we are all committed to giving children the best possible start in life.

Following the imminent retirement of our current Headteacher, we are seeking a Head of Centre to lead Homerton’s outstanding practice, with a strong vision for the future, developing and implementing long term strategies that will continue to build on our national reputation for excellence in the early years. In short we want Homerton to continue to develop as a beacon of excellence in early years education.

In partnership with the governing body, the Head of Centre will take the lead in the strategic direction and outward-facing work of the Centre, while working closely with the Assistant Headteacher, who is responsible for the day-to-day operation and management of the Centre. This is a 0.6 FTE (other workloads are negotiable) senior executive appointment responsible for establishing and leading a dynamic partnership with the Assistant Headteacher, to achieve delivery and development of outstanding early years education and care, both within and beyond the Centre, now and in the future.

The successful applicant will have :

  • excellent knowledge and outstanding practice of the Early Years Foundation Stage
  • proven successful leadership experience in an early years setting
  • a flexible, forward thinking, creative approach to innovation and income generation
  • experience of delivering effective training for Early Years practitioners
  • confidence with the collection and processing of data regarding young children’s progress and development
  • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
  • undertaken further professional development in leadership and management
