Job overview

Ty Gwyn is a secondary pupil referral unit (PRU) and newly remodelled provision. This post will include leadership and responsibility for two provisions, Ty Gwyn Education Centre and an innovative Alternative Learning Service. Strong and effective partnerships exist across both provisions. Ty Gwyn is categorised as green school and leads on a number of local and national projects for Central South Consortium (CSC) and Welsh Government.

In September 2016, Ty Gwyn Education Centre moved to a fully refurbished and modernised site in Aberdare. It now has excellent facilities and is able to provide education for up to 104 pupils aged between 11 and 16, with 79 currently on roll. It aims to provide excellent learning opportunities and outcomes for all pupils who find it challenging in mainstream settings. Ty Gwyn continues to outperform national standards for PRUs in terms of GCSE and equivalent qualifications.

Ty Gwyn is a dynamic but challenging learning environment with committed teachers and support staff who expect the high levels of commitment and professionalism from its leaders and in particular the Head of Centre. If you have the experience, commitment and drive to take on and further develop this fast improving provision then this could be an excellent post for you.

This is a wonderful opportunity for a committed professional and senior leader to move Ty Gwyn further forward in its journey. This will require strength, leadership, commitment and loyalty.

In return for your commitment, energy and expertise you will work with a great team, wonderful young people and a fully supportive local authority and management committee. Ty Gwyn Education Centre is a very special provision looking for a very special leader to further drive standards forward. Rhondda Cynon Taf is a very inclusive local authority committed to providing the best quality provision for vulnerable learners with additional needs.
