Job overview

In a new position at the school, we are seeking a passionate education professional to lead the not for profit On Track Education Centre towards Ofsted success. Our independent special school opened in January 2006 and is registered for 24 students aged 11 to 19 with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties. The school underwent an Ofsted inspection in February and was found to require improvement against the new inspection framework. However, with a dedicated and determined new leader, the leadership team is resolute that the school will, once again, be judged as good in all areas.

The school prides itself on providing students with a sense of success and positive achievement in their personal and academic skills. This is approached by treating every student with unconditional support and nurture. With an emphasis on supporting them to be better able to make positive choices, and through an ongoing encouragement of good decisions, our students internalize the capacity to make positive choices; which means a real and genuine change can take place. The next steps are to ensure that the school can evidence the progress the students make, building on the robust foundations of this child centred school.

Currently, there are 15 students of both genders on roll. Students are taught using individual learning approaches in very small groups with a high staff ratio. The curriculum provides a wide range of academic, vocational and outdoor learning experiences to sustain students’ interest, re-engage them with education and ensure they achieve external accreditation, including Entry Level, GCSEs, BTEC and Level 1 & 2 qualifications.

We are interested in hearing from qualified teachers with the commitment and the desire to meet the academic and non-academic needs of every student in the school. Importantly, we wish to appoint a new leader who will embrace the positive ethos within the school and give priority to the emotional wellbeing, as well as academic achievement, of the students. The successful candidate will provide leadership and management of the On Track Education Centre, with particular focus on teaching and learning.

On Track Education Services, a not for profit organisation, was founded in 2005 by a team of teachers wanting to provide a nurturing school environment for children with challenging behaviour. On Track now has six special independent schools in England, and an intervention service, and plans to develop other new and innovative environments in which school children are able to thrive.

On Track Education Services is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All applicants will be subject to a full Disclosure And Barring Service check before appointment is confirmed.
