Barnhill is an 11-18 mixed, oversubscribed, multi-cultural comprehensive Multi-Academy Trust school. Our outcomes at GCSEs for progress places us in the top 10% of schools, nationally. The school operates a sophisticated curriculum that is tailored to individual students’ needs.  Student outcomes are very high, specifically in core and EBacc subjects, with Progress 8 scores of +0.50 in English, +1.05 in maths and +0.89 in EBacc.  Our mathematics outcomes are in the top 50 schools in England.  Additionally, we have a thriving Sixth form which has grown substantially during the last two years and is the highest achieving in the Borough. We boast an excellent sustained success rate, placing us in the top 6% for outcomes in the country, with over 35% of students moving on to attend Russell Group universities. 

The Science Department get excellent outcomes at KS4 (top 100 in the country in 2018) and 5 (ALPS 3 in Chemistry). Triple Science and a Medical Science course are very popular at the school.

We have specialist labs for all main scale teachers and 3 experienced technicians. 

We are a progressive and forward thinking department and our philosophy is to promote Science literacy for the future for all students, including students who do not study science post-16. 

We have specialist teachers across all Science disciplines who continuously seek to develop and improve themselves and colleagues through internal and external CPDs. We offer middle leader development opportunities to all.

We promote collaborative working and good professional relationship across the department.

Teaching and Learning is at the forefront of our daily operation and it’s a pleasure to nurture the wealth of talent in our future scientists.

We help students to see the big picture through the delivery of the ‘big ideas’ in science and how they relate to real life and the world around them through enrichment and active engagement in lessons

We are forging a relationships with other departments through cross curricular links with STEM and humanities so students can see the links between all the skills they acquire and their use across subjects
