Oundle School is one of the country’s leading HMC co-educational boarding and day schools, and enjoys a strong reputation for academic excellence supported by outstanding pastoral care.
To start September 2021 with an indication at the end of August, a dynamic leader, manager and teacher is required to run a thriving department. The successful candidate will be a well-qualified graduate with a proven track record as an outstanding teacher with strong subject knowledge, who is able to participate in and contribute to the life of the School as a whole.
The Head of Chemistry will be responsible for ensuring that the education of pupils is upheld as a priority and that the highest possible standards in work and conduct are achieved throughout the department. They will be dynamic and committed as a classroom teacher and will contribute his/her own particular strengths and skills to the future development of the Department.
Science is one of the core curriculum subjects at Oundle, with Biology, Chemistry and Physics studied by all pupils up to the Fifth Form (Year 11). Oundle has offered the academically rigorous Pre-U Chemistry course as its secondary qualification —in 2018, Oundle Upper Sixth pupils achieved over 62.1% A*/B at Pre-U with over 31.0% managing an A* equivalent— and from September 2021 will be following the Cambridge A level specification.
All sciences are taught by subject specialists and are amongst the most popular post-GCSE choices. The Science Department has an excellent track record in preparing pupils for highly competitive degree courses such as Engineering, Medicine, Physics and Natural Sciences at the top universities in the country.
The Chemistry Department is housed in the state-of-the-art SciTec campus, which has been extended and developed further to bring about Oundle School's vision of having a STEM campus for the Sciences, Mathematics, and Design andTechnology. The campus now includes a new Mathematics Department, Biology and Chemistry Project Rooms, and a Science Staff workspace, as well as redevelopment of the Design and Technology Department, with excellent resources for practical work and research, as well as housing computer suites.
Oundle School has a strong tradition of teaching through practical and independent project work. The Chemistry department, which has a staff of eight teachers supported by three technicians, has excellent facilities and practical work is central to our teaching.
