Job overview

DHSZ are seeking a dynamic educator who will combine the best of Chinese and International pedagogical approaches to provide progressive learning for our students.  The postholder will teach essential skills such as critical thinking, presentation, and debate alongside deepening language skills and critically exploring literature.  The majority of our 700+ students have Chinese as their first language, whilst the school also caters for a very small number of second language learners.

Our school

Dulwich International High School Suzhou (DHSZ) is a selective, English-medium, co-educational four-year high school. Our students are highly motivated and learning focused which makes it a delight to teach them. The majority of our 700+ students are PRC nationals who will pursue their university studies at excellent universities and colleges outside China. To this end, our students opt out of the Chinese education system at the end of junior middle school to follow a curriculum leading to IGCSEs and A Levels.

We are one of a family of schools owned and operated by Dulwich College International (DCI), based in Shanghai. DCI was founded in 2003, with full approval and authority from Dulwich College London and currently owns 11 schools in China, Seoul, Singapore and vietnam. Being part of a group of schools offers our teachers and students many opportunities for connections and development outside the school as well.

We are an expanding school, currently in our eighth year of operation. We opened in September 2012 in temporary premises within the beautiful grounds of the prestigious Suzhou High School, in the heart of the old town of Suzhou in Jiangsu Province. In August 2015, we moved to our new purpose-built campus which is located in the developing SIP district of Suzhou, right next door to Dulwich’s other school in Suzhou, DCSZ, which is a 3-18 international school, offering IGCSE and the IB diploma.

Our strong connections with both Dulwich College London and Suzhou High School allow us to truly claim that our school is a bridge between the educational traditions of East and West and it is this unique distinction that sets us apart from our competitors.

In line with the Dulwich College educational philosophy, we offer a holistic approach to the education of our high performing students, which is centred on a rigorous and advanced academic programme based around the UK’s University of Cambridge International Examinations A-level qualification. In addition, we run an extensive extra-curricular activities programme that supports students in developing their teamwork, leadership and creativity skills.

Suzhou

Suzhou is a wealthy major city in the southeast of Jiangsu Province in Eastern China, adjacent to the Shanghai Municipality. The journey time from Shanghai to Suzhou on the comfortable and efficient high-speed trains is only 25 minutes. Situated on the lower reaches of the Yangtse River and built around two large lakes, Suzhou is the second largest city in Jiangsu province after its capital city, Nanjing. Administratively, Suzhou is a prefecture-level city with an urban population of around 10 million in its whole administrative area. Suzhou is considered one of the most attractive and livable of all the major cities in China.

Our vibrant school continues to evolve and develop, and is within an expanding family of innovative schools. As a result, there are regular opportunities for staff to take part in exchanges of practice, lead and partake in cross-school projects, and explore opportunities for greater responsibilities whilst gaining valuable experience.

Our school is on the shared campus with our sister school, Dulwich College Suzhou, in Suzhou Industrial Park, providing our students and faculty with an excellent environment for learning and access to a wide range of educational resources. Each room is equipped with smart technology, as well as central air and filtration systems. The 56 classrooms include custom designed science labs, a library, a black box theatre, music practice rooms, sport fields, a roof garden and a medical centre.  We have a coffee shop, bread bar, fitness room, dance studio, dining room with a la carte Chinese and Western options, and plenty of social space around the school.

The remuneration package for staff is generous with excellent accommodation, medical and other benefits.
