Uppingham School, one of the leading schools in the UK, is seeking to appoint a first-rate teacher of Classics to lead our highly successful, large and thriving Classics department.
As Head of Classics, you will be responsible for the strategic leadership and development of the subject, where you will lead on the quality assurance of educational provision by monitoring teaching and learning, observing lessons, evaluating the department’s performance and actively addressing the underperformance of pupils.
All Fourth Form (Year 9) pupils study a Classical subject in their first year, and thereafter can opt for Latin & Greek, Latin or Classical Civilisation for GCSE. At A level we offer Greek, Latin, Ancient History and Classical Civilisation. Numbers opting for these subjects remain buoyant.
Beyond the classroom, the Classics Department organises a range of activities including speakers, visits, and a popular trip to Rome and the Bay of Naples.
We are looking for an outstanding teacher, visionary leader, and an experienced professional who will not settle for less than excellence. A track record of first rate teaching and a rapport with pupils is vital.
If you are a strong, dynamic and inspirational character with unimpeachable subject knowledge and the ability to lead and inspire, we would be delighted to hear from you.
