Job overview

Head of College

Are you looking to work somewhere completely different?

The Green Room College (GRC) is for young people over the age of 16, who have had a difficult educational experience.

We are looking for an exceptional person to run our college.

The core essence of The Green Room is to ‘Start a Path’. We enable our students to do this through a programme of education that is built upon a foundation of ROCCIT. ROCCIT is a framework of transversal skills (Resilience, Organisation, Communication, Community, Initiative, Teamwork), created at The Green Room, that will help our learners adapt to change and go on to lead meaningful and productive lives. Not all of these skills can be taught or experienced in a regular school environment which is why GRC has built its home in a community pub. This unique setting allows us to regularly engage with the community and offer meaningful work encounters in the hospitality, catering, events and retail sectors.

The success of GRC relies first on it being a place of safety where students feel they can grow and thrive, our first and foremost value being kindness. We then aim to spark a passion for curiosity which broadens our students' experience, perceptions and understanding of the world and the community they live in. Our final purpose being to increase aspirations and enact positive change.

The Head of GRC is a position that needs to model these values and skills through exceptional leadership.

The journey for GRC students begins on day one, where your leadership will inspire a desire to be there, and the confidence to change. You will be able to provide high support to students and staff, coupled with high challenge as we provide meaningful and bespoke opportunities for our young people. You will need to be firm with boundaries and respected for consistency and fairness. GRC is a place for social development, where students can make friends, support each other and develop independence and resilience as they progress into the next stage of their life. It is important that, wherever possible, this should be a fun experience. We aim to make education unmissable by being audacious in our approach.

This role includes leading the college as well as modelling unmissable teaching to groups of students as well as 1:1 interventions across our curriculum of project based learning. We also provide GCSE resits, vocational certificates and would like to expand into the world of apprenticeships. The successful candidate will be given the support but also freedom to develop this engaging curriculum and manage our brilliant team.

Package includes competitive salary (£45K-£50k p.a.) for this full time role in addition to eligibility for our pension scheme, Benenden Healthcare, Death in Service benefit, lunches, DBS, statutory training and role-specific training as needed.
