Haileybury wishes to appoint a dynamic, creative and innovative Head of Computer Science.

This is an exciting time to be joining our School. With plans for a purpose built Science and Technology Centre underway, Computer Science is becoming an increasingly important academic subject within our curriculum. We are looking for an ambitious leader to drive the subject forwards, working closely with the Head of Technology and the Head of Mathematics.

Reporting to the Head of Technology, the postholder will lead the Computer Science Department at Haileybury to ensure the following:

  • The curriculum offer at all key stages is vibrant, challenging and empowering.
  • Pupils are supported to reach their full potential and to gain significant insight into the world of Computer Science both within and in addition to the curriculum.
  • The teaching across the department is of a consistently high standard.
  • Teachers within the department are challenged and supported to improve their practice in a sustained, meaningful fashion.
  • The development of links with the Maths Department to explore and promote computational and logical thinking across the two departments.
  • Inter-disciplinary links are built and consolidated between computer science and mathematics, technology, engineering and the wider concept of STEAM.

In addition, the Head of Computer Science will fulfil the teaching requirements as directed by the Head of Technology, according to the overall aims of the school. The teacher must be able to teach Computer Science in the Sixth Form and be prepared to teach Computer Science as part of the IB Diploma Programme. They can expect to teach classes ranging from Year 7 to Year 13.

  • Ensuring the best possible academic outcomes for pupils through planning, preparing and delivering courses and lessons to a high standard.
  • Maintaining a stimulating teaching environment and exercise proper care of teaching materials, equipment and rooms.
  • Promoting the general progress and well-being of individual pupils and groups of pupils.
  • Participating in arrangements for further external training and professional development as a teacher.
  • Working with and inspiring a tutor group of young people, as part of a wider team of year group and boarding house tutors following the expectations set out in the Staff Handbook.
  • Supervising pupils as part of a boarding house tutor team; this will include carrying out an evening boarding house duty, and occasional Saturday evening and Sunday commitments.
  • Sharing responsibility for all pupils within the College (especially those in your teaching or tutor groups) in liaison with appropriate Heads of Department, Housemasters and Housemistresses and senior managers.
  • Maintaining good order and discipline among the pupils and safeguard their health and safety both when they are on the College premises and when they are engaged in College activities elsewhere
