Bolingbroke now delivers Computer Science in years 7-13 with growing GCSE and A level numbers. We are now seeking to appoint to a new role to allow this provision to excel. We also have an excellent digital provision with all pupils being provided with a Chromebook to access digital learning, the Computer Science team is crucial to the implementation of this. 

The Role 

Lead a professional community of subject teachers to ensure high attainment of their subject across all key stages of the Computer Science curriculum. 

To develop and lead an exciting curriculum which drives ambitious outcomes for pupils and students. Lead a highly effective and organised team, nurturing your people and modelling excellence across your daily practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Secure academic outcomes in line with the targets set through the academy’s target setting policy

• Empower the TLR post holders and team to reflect and develop an exceptional Computer Science curriculum

• Coach trainee Computer Science teachers to ensure they become excellent teachers of the subject 

• Be an outstanding teacher, able to motivate and challenge learners across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5

• Monitor, evaluate and continually improve the quality of planning, teaching and assessment

• Ensure the Computer Science curriculum achieves the broad aims of the National Curriculum 

• Lead the assessment process in the subject ensuring accurate measurement of subject standards in all year groups at all summative assessment points

• Analyse student performance data and respond to the outcomes of assessment to ensure appropriate planning, teaching and interventions are in place to keep all pupils on track to achieve their targets

Leadership and Management

• Lead the professional development of the subject team to be highly effective practitioners

• Regularly monitor the quality of teaching of others teaching the subject in line with academy expectations and provide effective feedback and coaching to ensure subject teaching continually improves

• Line and performance manage any designated members of staff as per the academy policy and take necessary corrective action where there is any ineffective practice

• Manage allocated budget effectively and stay within set budget allocation

• Create an orderly subject environment in which the academy’s culture and ethos is upheld

• Contribute towards the leadership of digital strategy at Bolingbroke and supporting teachers to use more tech in their classrooms 

Teaching and Learning

• Exude a passion for Computer Science which is evident in your practice

• Monitor the practice of others teaching the subject to ensure they are following all areas of subject and academy policy accurately and appropriately

• To design an engaging and challenging curriculum that inspires pupils to appreciate the subject and its application, and which meets the needs of the pupils

• To enhance and expand the curriculum through trips and a diverse program of work

• To deliver outstanding teaching of Computer Science, helping pupils achieve excellent academic results


Personal specification

Essential

• Previous experience as a line manager

• Have experience working with pupils of different ages and abilities in a formal setting without supervision. 

• Demonstrable experience in managing behaviour and motivating children with a passion and belief in the potential of every pupil.

• Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. 

• Be committed to the values of Inclusion and Diversity. 

• Experience teaching Computer Science up to KS5 

Desirable 

• Previously a mentor/coach to trainee teachers

• Experience developing pupils’ digital literacy across the curriculum 

• Experience teaching IT vocational qualifications as well as Computer Science (such as iMedia)

• Have experience training staff on new strategies within a school

Training Opportunities

Our HR and Teaching and Learning teams are dedicated to offering the best development for all staff joining the academy, challenging and supporting staff to excel in their roles. In order to deliver exceptional training, we offer twice as many training days as standard. For teaching staff, we offer weekly CPD sessions which are held on a vast array of topics and run by many staff all showcasing their expertise. To develop the trainers, we ensure all sessions are reviewed retrospectively providing feedback and suggesting presentation and content improvements. We also offer weekly line management for everyone, additional coaching sessions for new and trainee staff and a more regular and developmental appraisal system.

Wellbeing and Inclusion

At Bolingbroke we value the individual and encourage difference. To achieve this, we start with inclusive recruiting practices. Starting from our job descriptions to blind recruiting, structured shortlisting and scoring we ensure that all employees applying are only measured against their skills, achievements and values. We want all our employees to have a voice, these can be heard through the wellbeing committee or diversity group. The Diversity Group promotes diversity within the curriculum, pupil’s school experience and for staff whilst the Wellbeing committee consists of representatives from all departments in the school and highlights issues concerning the staff and supporting in creating achievable and beneficial solutions. All staff are involved in co-planning meaning their input into the curriculum and teaching strategies are implemented. An employee will also have a 360 aspect to all appraisals ensuring peer review and employees to contribute to their managers appraisals. The school is dedicated to training and develop their leaders and staff on diversity and inclusion through a programme of CPD sessions and online training.

Specialisms

Like all Ark academies, Bolingbroke Academy will specialise in mathematics. We also have a strong focus on music, which helps develop self-expression, self-discipline, performance and team work as well as building a strong sense of community through collective participation. Our aim is for every pupil to play an instrument confidently and to take part in regular performances.
