We are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic individual for this exciting new post which will involve working across both Freman College and its partner middle school, Edwinstree.

The two schools are close neighbours and we work very closely because all the students who join Edwinstree in Year 5 will ultimately move on to Freman College in Year 9.  Therefore it is essential that we have a curriculum that enables pupils to move seamlessly from one school to the next.

Currently we do not have specialist computing teaching in either school, although we have a very successful OCR Cambridge National Creative Media course in Key Stage 4 and will be launching a new Cambridge Technical in Information Technology course in the Sixth Form in September 2019.  ICT is delivered by our Head of ICT who is looking forward to working closely with our new Head of Computing.

We are looking for a dynamic individual to set up a new KS3 course in Years 7 and 8 at Edwinstree, to introduce Computing in Year 9 at Freman alongside our existing ICT course and introduce a Computer Science GCSE for Year 10 for September 2019, rolling through to Year 11 in 2020.

The successful candidate’s time will be split between the two schools evenly in the first year while they set up courses on both sites.  As Key Stage 4 demands increase in the second year and courses in the middle school have been established, necessarily more time will be spent in Freman but they will continue to deliver some of the computing at Edwinstree and will continue to manage the subject across both schools.

Edwinstree has a well-equipped ICT suite with plans for an upgrade to machines in the near future.  The middle school’s network is managed by Freman College’s highly experienced Network Manager and there is a full time on site Network Assistant.  Freman College has outstanding ICT facilities.  We run a Windows network with a wide range of applications, including Microsoft Office and subject-specific software programmes. We also provide 24/7 home access to the college network for all staff and students, enabling them to use the full range of college software at home without having to purchase the usual licences.

This is a wonderful and unique opportunity for an experienced teacher of computing to create and develop a challenging and exciting computing curriculum for students aged 9 to 18.
