This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and inspirational Computing, Business & IT department as Head of Department, at our outstanding school in the heart of Yorkshire. This rewarding position would suit an experienced teacher looking to make their next career move. The role is permanent and you would be instrumental in supporting our amazing students, assisting them by creating a culture of success, ensuring they have a positive learning environment to increase student attainment, achievement and social and emotional development.

We expect our staff to bring out the best in each and every student. Our diverse curriculum has something for everyone, with extra guidance for those requiring additional support, and we do whatever it takes to help young people develop a sense of responsibility – towards themselves, each other, their community and the wider world. We are extremely proud of the achievements of our students and therefore we are seeking applicants with integrity, determination and energy for this rewarding role as a Head of Computing, IT & Business.   We need a leader who is passionate about their subject and keen to drive their department to provide young people with the best possible education whatever their background or ability. If you care about the success of all students and are looking for a new challenge and to develop your leadership skills in order to make that success a reality, we would welcome your application.

Outwood Academy Ripon places students at the centre of everything it does, with a focus on creating a culture of success, a positive climate for learning, and increased student attainment, achievement and social and emotional development. You will have the desire to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of ‘Students First, raising standards and transforming lives’.

Our Trust includes five teaching schools, four School Direct providers and two national support schools. These organisations work together to form the Outwood Institute of Education and work to support schools to improve outcomes for young people across the North of England.

Outwood Grange Academies Trust offers:

  • The opportunity to work and progress across the Family of Schools, should you wish in the future;
  • The chance to apply for leadership roles in the Deeps structure taking on a whole school leadership project;
  • The expertise of our Director team including personal weekly support from the director deployed to the academy;
  • A full and detailed programme of support and development for all;
  • A further comprehensive programme of professional development, including leadership, provided   through the Outwood Institute of Education.

We are keen to recruit dedicated and ambitious professionals who will add value to our Academy in both academic terms and through involvement in the fabric of learning and success beyond the classroom and in return we offer extensive professional development to help you develop your skills and your career.

You must have the qualifications as per our person specification. All qualifications must be listed on your application including results and certificates must be provided at interview. Please also ensure your employment and education history is listed in a chronological order with any gaps explained.

We are proud that Outwood Academy Ripon is rated Outstanding by Ofsted. We are an 11-16 academy based in the cathedral city of Ripon, near the UNESCO World Heritage Site encompassing the magnificent Studley Royal Deer Park, including the well-preserved Cistercian Fountains Abbey. Our success is one of the most impressive in North Yorkshire, and we have been recognised for our consistently excellent outcomes in progress and attainment.

Part of the Outwood Family since 2011, and judged as Outstanding by Ofsted since 2016 we retained our Outstanding status in a recent inspection, an inspection which stated that ‘Pupils are supported by caring staff who know them well”, “Pupils know that learning is important and apply themselves diligently to their work’” and noted that the relationships between staff and students are ‘very strong and behaviour around the academy is of a high standard.’

We aim to promote the highest standards of academic achievement through inspiring teaching and learning, with a curriculum designed to stretch and enrich our students’ experience. Our success speaks for itself as we are above the national average for the number of students achieving at a Grade 5 or above in English & maths GCSEs, and we have won numerous awards as a school including the Carnegie Mental Health Silver Award, Anti-Bullying Alliance Bronze Award and being accredited with the prestigious IQM Centre of Excellence status, which highlights that inclusion at all levels is of paramount importance to us

Put simply, we take pride in serving the local community, ensuring everyone has a right to learn.

Despite being Outstanding, we are constantly looking at ways to improve. Help to take us to the next level.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy. All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

If you share our vision, join our family.
