Purpose of Role

The Group Leader is an outstanding leader, responsible for the overall standards of teaching and learning in the group area. This person is not only an exceptional teacher, but also is committed to the Dehong values and philosophy in creating a bilingual, bicultural learning environment. This person communicates effectively with their team and creates a positive environment for staff to flourish and for students to learn.


Learning and Teaching Standards A

•    To promote outstanding teaching and learning in the Group that focuses on creating a bilingual, bicultural experience that inspires and will enthuse students to learn.

•    Creating a positive culture in the whole group; to be an enthusiastic role-model with a passion for their group and to be accountable for student progress and achievement within the group area.

•    Ensure appropriate Unit Planners are in place 

•    Effective monitoring of student progress on an individual or group basis (e.g. by teaching group, gender, etc.

•    Ensure school's assessment framework is adhered to by the group team.

•    Ensure effective management and deployment of financial, physical and human resources.

•    Ensure the group team's teaching and support commitments are effectively timetabled and roomed

•    Attend regular line management meetings with the linked SLT member.

•    Cover arrangements, including setting appropriate cover work for absent staff if necessary.

•    Contribute and lead regular group meetings with teaching and learning as a standard agenda item.

•    Provide agendas and minutes of these meetings to all members of the group team, and to the SLT if required.

•    Create a Group development plan that mirrors the school development plan.

•    Ensure appropriate monitoring activities are undertaken through regular paired lesson observations (at least one per teacher per term), and through scrutiny of students' work, including homework, and teachers' planning, marking and assessment, in line with school monitoring policies.

•    Through monitoring of assessment data, ensure appropriate targets for progress and attainment are set; that attainment is appropriate for specific groups of students, particularly EAL; identify areas of actual or potential underachievement and implement appropriate strategies to address these.

•    Ensure positive behaviour for learning policies and procedures are implemented to enable effective learning to take place.

•    Ensure appropriate and effective induction of teaching staff new to the group team.

•    Ensure appropriate measures are in place to coach, mentor, support and guide new teachers to the group.

•    Ensure that the group provides appropriate support for students applying for relevant university course, especially those applying to elite universities 

•    Ensure that the group provides appropriate outlets for the development of the Dehong Difference, including supporting the Qidi programme and House Competition.

•    Lead and maintain FireFly, particularly the group area section and produce a short weekly blog for parents.

•    Produce, review and implement relevant department policies.

•    Collaborate with colleagues across Dehong schools and Dulwich College International to share best practices around the network and participate in group-wide events as appropriate

•    Support service learning and sustainability practices, events and programmes

•    Other teaching and learning related tasks as determined by the Principal

Dehong Education Group is a dynamic and rapidly growing family of International Chinese schools in major cities in China.  

Dehong Shanghai International Chinese School, opened on 1 September 2017 and located in the Qizhong villa area of Maqiao, Minhang District, offers a progressive learning plan from elementary school to high school.
