Key Responsibilities:

  • To lead and direct all aspects of coaching, development, provision and performance in cricket.
  • To take a lead role in coaching the School’s cricket teams.
  • To organise a suitable coaching programme, overseeing and developing an appropriate scheme of work for curriculum cricket delivery.
  • To monitor the performance and development of co-curricular cricket.
  • To develop links with local cricket clubs and cricket-playing schools.
  • To lead on and create opportunities for identifying talent and attracting potential high performers
  • To increase the number of girls playing cricket.
  • To provide training and inset for staff to ensure quality in delivery of cricket across the senior and prep schools.
  • To carry out administrative arrangements for effective day-to-day running of the programme i.e. facility hire, staffing teams, fixtures, transport and competition entries.
  • To lead and manage co-curricular cricket staff.
  • To support and direct teachers who assist in coaching and teaching cricket.
  • To plan and lead taster sessions, internal competitions, pre-season sessions, a camp and junior cricket tour.
  • To use ICT and school systems to carry out daily tasks.
  • To ensure all cricket events are published on the SOCS system.
  • To liaise and communicate with parents and pupils and manage their expectations.
  • To raise the profile of cricket within SHS and the community.
  • To publicise successes and achievements in assemblies, on the website, through the newsletter and local press.
  • To meet with the Director of Sport regularly to discuss progress.
  • To communicate with student athletes and parents regarding external opportunities, goal setting and areas for development.
  • To produce written reports and complete half termly grade reports on the progress and achievement of any pupil taught in curriculum sessions, in line with SHS reporting procedures.
  • To play a full part in the life of the vibrant school community, supporting our vision, ethos and policies.
  • To commit to personal professional development, including staff training and the performance review process.



The successful candidate will be likely to fit the following profile:

  • Hold a cricket coaching qualification Level 2 or equivalent
  • Ability to coach players at a national level
  • Offer another sport would be desirable but not essential
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a dynamic School and successful Cricket programme
  • Experience of operating professionally and safely within a sporting environment
  • Good communication, organizational, administrative and ICT skills
  • Excellent planning and time management skills
  • Must have played Cricket at a high level
  • Experience of teaching in schools desirable but not essential
  • Proven experience of running teams
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of cricket, initiatives and strategies to enhance the cricket experience of SHS pupils
  • Confidence and creativity in managing squads of varying abilities
  • High levels of personal and professional integrity and the ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality
  • Personal warmth to gain the confidence of pupils, staff and parents
  • High standards of personal presence and presentation and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate concisely and sensitively, both orally and in writing, to a variety of audiences
  • Passion for cricket, both on and off the pitch
  • Ambitious and aspirational for oneself and for the School
  • Be well organised to manage all aspects of the cricket programme
  • Maintain strong, professional relationships with all players and parents
  • Have a vision for developing and improving cricket at SHS and be able to translate that vision into reality
  • Ambitious and aspirational for oneself and for the School
  • Committed to professional development and show a willingness to undertake appropriate training for this role
