Job overview

This is an exceptional opportunity for an aspiring head of PE to build their own team around magnificent facilities and turn the PE department into the heart of a rapidly improving school.

In Ofsted’s recent visit, November 2016, they made the following observations; ‘Leadership has improved dramatically since the new Executive Principal joined the school in April 2016’.

‘The new Executive Principal has already tackled successfully poor attendance, punctuality and unacceptable behaviour’. ‘There is growing strength in the wider leadership team’. (Ofsted 2016) The successful applicant will have a passion about learning, be an excellent teacher, have great subject knowledge with both theory and practical aspects of PE and strong inter-personal skills. Therefore, this is a real opportunity for someone to step up to Middle Leadership and widen their sphere of influence. We are looking for someone who will help students through the pursuit of excellence. The school is already improving at a rapid pace and this is a career defining opportunity for those who can play a pivotal role in enhancing the life chances of children and young people.

The Academy, sponsored by the Diocese of Oxford and Buckinghamshire County Council, moved into new purpose built accommodation in September 2013 and is benefitting from state of the art PE facilities. You will lead your department in the use of fantastic facilities. Outdoors these include a full size 3G floodlit football pitch which can be used as 3x5-a-side pitches, a full size all-weather floodlit hockey pitch, 6 multi-use hard courts and extensive grass pitches. Indoors you will utilise an indoor multi-use sports hall which includes cricket nets along with a dance studio and a fitness suite. The sports hall is not used for examinations.

This position is suited to a vibrant, ambitious Head of Curriculum Area who will build a team around them to provide a diverse and enriched curriculum which drives students’ affinity with the school. This job is not for the faint-hearted, but if you have tenacity, drive and ambition for the students we serve, you will find a supportive environment which will help you achieve extraordinary success for students and yourself.

Comments from a recent Ofsted were:

  • ‘Parents, pupils and most staff applaud the strenuous efforts the Executive Principal has already made to improve the school’.
  • ‘Most notably, behaviour is significantly better’.
  • ‘The quality of teaching, learning and assessment is improving quickly’.

We can offer you and your career:

  • A personalised CPD programme.
  • An opportunity to be involved in the development and progression of the Academy and wider community.
  • Excellent support for career progression.
