Job overview

This is an excellent opportunity to join the Guernsey Grammar School & Sixth Form Centre, to be part of an exciting period of change in secondary education and enjoy an exceptional future on a beautiful island.

About you

We are looking for a Head of Drama and Theatre Studies to join our team at the Guernsey Grammar School and Sixth Form Centre, with effect from 01 September 2019. This is an excellent opportunity to lead and manage a key curriculum area at an exciting time in the development of the school under a new structure for secondary and post 16 education.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about raising learners’ individual achievements with innovative ideas to build on existing good practice. Alongside being able to demonstrate excellence in teaching and learning, you should also be committed to the role of Tutor, supporting a group of 15/16 students who benefit from a daily Tutorial session. You will be part of a team which delivers the new Bailiwick Curriculum including a range of international and UK qualifications. We also expect you to make a full contribution to the ethos, identity and life of the school, offering a commitment to the broad range of Enrichment activities that are available in the school.

About the Education Service

The Grammar School & Sixth Form Centre currently operates as part of the Guernsey Federation of Secondary Schools which includes St Sampson’s, Les Beaucamps and Le Mare de Carteret High schools alongside St Anne’s School in Alderney. Secondary and Post 16 education is undergoing a period of exciting change on the Island which includes a planned new structure with one 11-18 all ability school on two sites.

The drivers in Secondary phase education for this significant transformation are: equality of educational experience and outcomes, equality of opportunity and access, and efficient and effective use of resources.

Employed by the States of Guernsey and based at the Guernsey Grammar School and Sixth Form Centre, you will be required to maximise opportunities for collaborative working, teaching and learning across Key Stages and shared professional development across schools. There is an expectation that you will engage in cross-school collaboration which may require working on more than one site to meet the needs of the Education Service. The transition plans for the new structure may also mean you will work from an alternative site.

Benefits

This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded and thriving Drama and Theatre Studies Department where the success rate in external examinations is consistently high. Further details of our public examination results are available via our website.

The department is well-resourced with a dedicated team of two specialist teachers.
