Head of Department - History

TLR £4443 start January 2018 - interviews will be week commencing 16th October 2017

An innovative and inspirational HistoryTeacher is needed to lead the department to ensure all students make progress.

Grace Academy Darlaston, is a vibrant secondary Academy on the outskirts of Walsall rated by Ofsted as 'Good' in May 2017.  We have approximately 800 students on roll across the Academy and are expanding rapidly.  Following a period of under-achievement, our staff have worked exceedingly hard over the last few years which led to a substantial improvement in results in 2016 and further improvements this year.

The Academy is on an upward journey, if you consider yourself to be a Head of Department capable of helping us along that journey in our humanities department, you are more than welcome to pay us a visit to see our outstanding facilities first hand.

The ability to teach across all key stages would be an advantage but is not essential.

  • The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and influential teacher and leader.
  • In return we will offer the post holder exceptional leadership and management development/CPD.

You will be able to demonstrate unwavering commitment to raising student progress and standards.  Like us, you will believe that social disadvantage is no barrier to achievement and that every student can share in the joy of education.  Most importantly, you will possess integrity, good humour and moral purpose.

If you require an application pack please contact email gadrecruitment@graceacademy.org.uk or for any enquiries call Helen Allport on 0121 568 3300.

Please complete the application form and Equal Opportunities Form and send back to gadrecruitment@graceacademy.org.uk with a covering letter detailing your experience to date for this post.

Closing date for applications is Friday 13th October 2017

Informal visits available on request.

Our main website can be accessed at www.graceacademy.org.uk (select Darlaston site)

Our Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we expect our staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Values and vision

Grace Academy has a Christian ethos based upon its five shared values of grace, respect, integrity, potential and excellence. As part of its vision to develop citizens who make a difference, the school engages students and staff in the work of a dedicated Ethos Team. The Ethos Team includes a dedicated member of the leadership team, youth workers and an RSE programme coordinator. They work together with key staff to help students develop a sense of identity, make wise and well-informed choices, live with aspiration, and understand and apply the school’s values.

Through the secondary school’s Business and Enterprise Specialism, it draws on the expertise of more than 62 business professionals from 16 local companies, who offer students workshops and advice to help improve their employability.
