In this newly created role, a Head of Department with expertise in delivering Performing Arts will have the opportunity to build on four terms of groundwork and shape the curriculum structure and methodology in their own style ready for delivery of the GCSE courses starting in September 2021.

As detailed in the candidate pack, Creative and Performing Arts will grow as a specialism within Coombe Wood School and become a key strand of study as we enter our state of the art new facilities in September 2020. 

This role would suit either an aspirant Performing Arts teacher looking to develop their middle leader skills for 18 months before guiding our inaugural GCSE courses, or an experienced middle leader who wishes to build a department in their own style and methodology.  

It is to expected that, subject to outstanding performance, the TLR for this role will grow as we move towards public examinations at GCSE and A Level.

About us

Coombe Wood School opened in September 2018 with 180 Y7 students. It was heavily oversubscribed for our recent September 2019 entry with 1205 applications for 180 places. 

This is a new secondary fully inclusive co-educational school, established to meet an urgent rising local demand. Initially housed in temporary accommodation, the site for the ‘new build’ school is opposite Lloyd Park in South Croydon, with an excellent Tramlink service to and from East Croydon station (just 5 minutes’ journey-time away) and a short walk from several bus routes. Over £35 million is to be invested in building a state-of-the-art school which will include enhanced sports facilities, comprising a competition-sized sports hall, a full-size 3G artificial floodlit surface and aspirations to include an 8 lane floodlit athletics track.
