Job overview

A recruitment and retention allowance may also be available for the right candidate.

We are looking for a brilliant and dynamic Design & Technology practitioner who is passionate about their subject and able to lead by example and inspire others.

Uffculme Academy Trust is delighted to be in a position to offer this important middle leadership post to the right candidate at our East Devon Academy: Axe Valley at this exciting period of its development. Uffculme Academy Trust currently includes Uffculme School, one of the most successful schools in the country and Uffculme Primary School as well as a teaching school (WCTSA) and from September, we will be in the enviable position of working in a highly successful family of schools providing education from 4-19 with exceptional opportunities for career progression.

Axe Valley currently has approximately 600 students in Years 7–11.  The Academy is located in the East Devon area of the country, in the beautiful market town of Axminster, which is set on the River Axe.  Axminster is just a few miles inland from the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site but has excellent rail links to London and Exeter.

We are looking for an excellent teacher with the potential to be an exceptional leader.  This is a fantastic opportunity for the right person to develop their own DT department in an exciting and innovative way to best meet the needs of our students.  We have no pre-conceived idea about how DT will look at Axe Valley in the future but we are totally committed to the subject as we feel it needs to play an integral part in our curriculum offer. There are fantastic opportunities for career progression as a middle leader, potentially an SLE designated through our teaching school and as an aspiring senior leader.

If you feel you have the skills and determination to make a difference and to help and transform the lives of young people we would love to hear from you.

Visits to the Academy are welcomed.  Please contact Mrs Ford, Headteacher’s PA on 01297 32146 if you wish to arrange a visit or discuss the position further.

Further information regarding the post and application forms can be found via the Academy website www.axevalley.devon.sch.uk/vacancies.

Closing date for applications is Sunday 19th May with shortlisting on Monday 20th May.
Interviews will take place on Wednesday 22nd May.

After working in a formal partnership with Holyrood Academy since April 2016, Axe Valley Academy became part of the Vector Learning Trust on 1st April 2017. We believe that the benefits of working within the Trust and the extra capacity that this will bring will be hugely beneficial to us as we look to further develop the Academy at pace in the coming months and years.

The core values that underpin our work are excellence, perseverance, respect and care. This ethos is shared by everyone who works at the Academy and one of the key things that you will notice when you visit the school is the way in which we put people first. The progress and attainment of our students is paramount but we encourage our young people to achieve within a supportive learning environment. The positive relationships between our students, staff and families are perhaps what set us apart and these relationships form the basis of our continued improvement towards becoming an outstanding school.

We believe that every student in Axminster and its surrounding villages deserves a fantastic local education, with great teaching in every lesson, in every subject, every day. If you think that you have what it takes to join our team of hard-working and committed professionals, we look forward to welcoming you to the Academy.
