Job overview

Job Title: Head of Drama & LAMDA Coach

Location: Casterton, Sedbergh Prep School

Contract Type: Full or part-time, permanent

Salary: Competitive, in line with skills & experience

Casterton, Sedbergh Prep School is situated in a spectacular rural location in the Lune Valley, an ideal place for living out the ethos of allowing children to be children. We strive to realise the potential in all of our pupils, from the classroom to the stage, or to the sports pitch.

We now seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join us as Head of Drama & LAMDA Coach. This post will be ideally suited to an experienced LAMDA coach or drama teacher, equally able to manage large group teaching of curriculum drama as well as more focused LAMDA coaching.

Drama plays an important part in our curriculum, with every child from Year 3 to 8 taught the subject as part of our Performing Arts provision. There are productions every year, ranging from the Nativity to the Summer Musical, that provide the opportunity for every child in the School to take part.

The Head of Drama teaches all drama lessons and is responsible for devising the schemes of work, liaising with the Head of Music for the production of musicals and playing a full part in their rehearsal and direction. The number of curriculum drama lessons varies according to the pupil roll but typically equates to around 0.5 FTE.

Although curriculum lessons ultimately take priority over LAMDA, the time remaining may be utilised as LAMDA coach. This ‘extra’ is very popular amongst Prep School children of all ages and we traditionally produce excellent results. The successful candidate will undertake all aspects of the role, from promotion, to administration (including weekly timetables and exam arrangements), coaching and the organisation of informal recitals.
