Job overview

Where students want to be, Where staff want to work, Where community works

NOR 1499 (Including 260 in the Sixth Form)

An opportunity has arisen for a committed teacher to join our very successful Creative Arts team. This post provides an excellent opportunity for experienced teachers who want to be supported through to the next stage in their career. The successful candidate will have opportunities to teach Drama across all key stages.

The department is part of a forward thinking, organised team who have excellent support mechanisms, structures and strong working relationships. We have developed and refined our schemes of learning over the last 4 years and are currently in the process of rolling out a new KS3 scheme of learning. Historically, we have a strong uptake at both KS4 & KS5.

Our school productions are nationally recognised for their quality. We usually sell out 5 performances in the local Alnwick Playhouse for the annual musical, and three performances of the Autumn play. Drama club is one of the most popular clubs in school.

We constantly strive to refine our practice in order to provide students with opportunities and enable them to be  the best version of themselves. Our CPD programme is strong and we use department time to discuss, collaborate and implement.

As the leader of the Drama department you would have access to a fully equipped Drama studio, including lighting rigs and sound, as well as the main school hall, which has its own sound and lighting room. You would also be a part of a Faculty which allows collaboration and support on a daily basis.

You will be joining a school that has a vision to be an educational centre of excellence based on the principle that effective relationships are the key to positive outcomes. The staff team have a student centred approach and we have a robust teacher education programme. We want to invest in successful applicants and help them progress through their own career. We are looking for candidates who share the same values as us as we continue to grow our team.

Further details of this post and an application form are available on our website (www.dchs-alnwick.org) Further questions or a virtual discussion can be arranged by emailing the school at admin@dchs-alnwick.org

Closing date: 1.00pm, Monday 13th February 2023

The School is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

About The Duchess's Community High School

We are thrilled that you are interested in joining the team here at DCHS. We took over as Co-Heads in January 2021 with an aim of DCHS being an educational centre of excellence based on the principle that effective

relationships are the key to positive outcomes. We believe that first and foremost we as teachers are here to  provide high quality teaching and support to students within our care, and in doing so we will create a place where students want to be.

We are looking for team players who have a student centred approach as well as a desire to be part of a robust teacher education programme. We have a considerate approach to staff workload and are committed  to investing in staff to help them progress through their own career, and in doing so create a place where staff want to work.

We are passionate that the term ‘community’ within our title is significant and cannot be undersold or underplayed. We believe that every member of staff at DCHS should leave the community in a better position than the point they arrived here and ask that, if you are to join us, you share this belief. We believe that at DCHS, community works.

We have included everything we feel is important to share in the recruitment packs and we welcome requests from anyone interested in these positions to contact us to visit in person, meet over a video call or chat on the phone about these opportunities.
