Role:

As part of an Academy committed to a shared vision for all pupils, the Head of EAL will be responsible for working with and supporting colleagues to raise attainment for pupils with EAL and the empowerment of EAL pupils to experience success in all areas of school life. They will work closely with the Teaching and Learning, Pastoral and Attendance teams to ensure that our EAL pupils are well supported to succeed at LEA. This colleague will also form part of the English Department and teach English (mainly as an additional language) to raise standards of pupil achievement.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work with and support colleagues to raise attainment for students with EAL.
• Identify pupils with EAL who require support/intervention; plan for their provision and ensure that their needs are catered for through appropriate and high quality teaching.
• Work closely with the Attendance Team to raise attendance of EAL pupils, devise strategies to assist with this and develop intervention plans to show impact with the cohort.
• Assist with contacts made with parents/carers through calls, meetings and home visits as appropriate.
• Work closely with the PDBW Team to ensure Academy standards and Core Values are understood and met.
• Ensure good and better progress for all students within groups taught through the planning and preparation of high quality lessons which engage, motivate and support learners and adhere to the Academy Teaching and Learning Standard
• Support and promote effective teaching and learning of EAL across the Academy in partnership with colleagues and through delivery of staff training where appropriate.
