The Good Schools Guide on King’s College School, Wimbledon

The school:

King’s College International School Bangkok is a King’s College School Wimbledon International School opening in August 2020, initially for boys and girls aged 2-11. We will grow over time to eventually cater for 1,500 students aged 2-18, offering IGCSEs, A levels and pathways to the world’s best universities.

We work closely with King’s Wimbledon to provide a well-structured education that aims to instil a love of learning, creativity and interdependence in our students. Our vision is to engage, inspire and extend our students. We want our alumni to be successful in their own ways. We do this with the values of kindness, good manners and wisdom in a friendly, welcoming and attractive environment.

We are looking for outstanding teachers who embody our values, can inspire students and who understand the values of a UK-style education.

We really value our teachers and we recruit the best. To help us do this, we offer an excellent package of international benefits including annual return flights, medical insurance, housing and a salary scale matched to the scale in King’s College School, Wimbledon.

The position:

From August 2020, the school wishes to appoint an outstanding head of EAL to manage the EAL provision across the early years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 initially.

Our students come from diverse backgrounds and many learn English as a second, third or even fourth language. To enable all students to access the curriculum, we feel the best support is for specialist EAL teachers to be part of the lesson, working with groups of students to support their work. For these lessons, the EAL teacher would work side by side with the class teacher to plan activities and feedback on the learning. We also need to adapt to the needs of the students and work with small groups or individuals away from the lesson where appropriate.

We really value our EAL department and are looking for a truly outstanding individual to lead the department. This will involve setting up and implementing baseline tests, organising the team of EAL teachers, monitoring the progress of students and year groups and providing co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to engage, extend and inspire the students.

We want a leader who is committed to outstanding pastoral care, who wants to take an active part in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and will go above and beyond for the school community.

The setting-up environment has a large number of opportunities for the right candidate as you will be involved with designing and implementing a curriculum, ordering the resources, designing house and school events, such as sports days, and having an input into co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

A completed application form with your full CV and cover letter in support of your application should be sent through the TES portal. Candidates will be longlisted through a Skype interview and then be invited to a face-to-face interview at King’s College School, Wimbledon between the 6th and 20th December 2019 or at King’s College International School Bangkok site between November 5th and December 5th. Early applications are welcome. Some interviews will be held in advance of the closing date if there is a large number of applicants.
