Brighton College Vietnam is looking to appoint a Head of EAL (Prep and Senior School) to start in August 2023.

Specific Teaching Responsibilities

This role will take responsibility for the oversight and management of EAL across Years 1 to 10. In addition, the role will require the delivery of EAL and departmental teaching. The Head of EAL will be responsible to the Senior Management Team in order to help facilitate strategic change in the area of EAL.

  • To be responsible for managing the programme of EAL throughout Years 1 to 10.
  • To embed, co-ordinate and monitor a continuous programme of EAL support across the different age phases (EYFS, KS1, KS2 and KS3).
  • To support the process of transfer and transition of pupils with recognised EAL needs between year groups.
  • To organise the appropriate assessment of pupils when concerns are raised.
  • To oversee the most effective method of referral for pupils to ensure that learning needs are recognised and managed by the EAL department.
  • To produce and regularly update Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for EAL pupils, in collaboration with class teachers.
  • To maintain and update the EAL Register and ensure relevant information is disseminated to staff.
  • To coordinate and implement the use of ICT within the department.
  • To regularly observe pupils with EAL needs in mainstream lessons.
  • To foster and maintain strong relationships between pupils, staff and parents ensuring excellent and open communication at all times.
  • To review the EAL Policy and be aware of any changes made to legislation on an annual basis.
  • To contribute to the school development plan under the umbrella of the College Learning Support Development Plan.


Delivery of EAL Support

  • To ensure the needs of pupils with EAL are met including within mainstream lessons.
  • To plan, organise and teach pupils with EAL needs either in the classroom, in small groups or individually.
  • To keep accurate records of pupil progress.
  • To hold regular discussion with class teachers about any pupils of concern.
  • To provide whole school CPD on EAL matters.
  • To use pupil tracking data to monitor the progress of pupils with EAL.
  • To have experience in supporting pupils for whom English is an additional language.
  • To be an inspirational teacher with high expectations of all pupils.
  • To have a passion for delivering improved outcomes for pupils with EAL needs.
  • To support teaching staff in lessons including pupils with EAL needs.


Administration

  • To ensure best possible practice within the department.
  • To evaluate the effectiveness of EAL support offered by the school to its pupils.
  • To monitor and observe the EAL support provided by the department.
  • To oversee department documentation and resources.
