We are looking for a Head of Economics in a school which offers excellent opportunities for professional development. This is a maternity cover role for two terms in the first instance, however the new post-holder will be joining us at a time of growth and the Twyford Trust offers exciting development opportunities and good promotion prospects for motivated and energetic teachers who support the ethos of the Trust. 

Twyford Church of England High School, an Ofsted outstanding school with a thriving Sixth Form, is one of four Twyford Trust schools - the other schools are William Perkin CE High School, Greenford (whose Sixth Form opened this year), Ada Lovelace CE High School which opened in September 2018 and Ealing Fields High School which now has 3 year groups.

This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative teacher and curriculum planner who is looking to take on a role within departmental leadership. The successful candidate will have responsibility for leading the department in planning and delivering the curriculum, and for monitoring the progress of students. The new post-holder will ensure that the quality of teaching and learning in the department is consistently high, and will support the development of a culture of sharing good practice. S/he will be responsible for the delivery of a rich wider learning offer in Economics and the role will also focus on creating a high quality extended school provision. 

The school offers a wide-ranging Economics curriculum including participation in the RES Essay Competition previous participation in the Bank of England’s Target Two Point Zero Competition. 

The new post-holder will be joining a small and successful department within the Social Sciences faculty, with 65% of A-level Economics students achieving A*-B and 95% A*-C in 2018. Economics is a popular choice at A Level – in Year 12 we have 34 students, and we have 36 Year 13 students taking A-level exams this summer.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A good degree and QTS 
  • Proven record of outstanding results
  • Outstanding skills as a classroom teacher and as a tutor
  • Knowledge of the requirements of the National Curriculum
  • Knowledge of the processes and techniques required to assess, record and report students’ learning effectively
  • An excellent record of developmental work in current role
  • Some experience of managing or implementing curriculum systems and initiatives
  • Some experience of managing others / managing change
  • Ability to be reflective and driven towards self-improvement
  • Energy and enthusiasm
  • A commitment to the ethos of the school.

About Twyford Church of England High School

The Twyford Church of England Academies Trust (TCEAT) is a compact CoE MAT which comprises four schools in the London Borough of Ealing. The Trust was established in October 2011 to enable an existing School, Twyford CE High School, to build on its successes and look outward to the large number of parents who were eager to become part of its community.
