Head of Economics (TLR3) - Starting Aug 2018
We are seeking a full time Head of Economics. The position will be a full-time two years renewable contract starting August 2018.
Economics within Individual and Societies
Economics is a thriving subject within the school and we have three iGCSE groups in both Year 10 and 11 as well as three IB groups in both Year 12 and Year 13 working at either standard or higher level. The popularity of the subject within the school is matched by the success of our students who consistently attain above expectations and who achieve highly year on year. Economics and Business Studies is both a leading subject area and the first choice for the majority of students in their future careers.
You will be able to teach your specialist subject of economics across the age and ability range (Year 10-13) including iGCSE and IB Standard and Higher Level. Previous experience of teaching IB is not a requirement, however, significant post 16 experience teaching in a comparable qualification such as A level would be an advantage.
You will also possess or be able to demonstrate strong leadership potential, reporting to the Head of Individual and Societies Faculty. Overall, the Head of Faculty works with subject leaders for Economics, Business Studies, History, Philosophy and Religious Studies, Geography and Psychology. You will be a key player amongst these leaders who are committed to high quality teaching throughout the wider team of teachers. You will also be responsible for another teacher of Economics developing teaching plans, learning resources and assessment practice to sustain the excellent progress of learners.
It is rare that you will be asked to contribute to the teaching of another area dues to the high demand for Economics courses but this may happen from time to time due to timetabling. Experience in teaching of Business Studies would therefore be an advantage.
All teachers at West Island School are tutors to a group of approximately 15 students within a particular year group.
