Job overview

The Prince’s Teaching Institute (PTI) has 12 years’ experience helping teachers to rediscover their love of their subject through working with some of the best subject experts and teachers in the country.  Every year over 10% of secondary schools from across England and Wales send a teacher to a PTI event.

This new senior post is being created in order to grow the organisation’s reach and develop the PTI’s programmes, events and engagement with teachers.  It is an exciting opportunity to help shape the PTI's future.

Working with the PTI office team and the teachers and schools leaders who lead our activities, you will be expected to engage and build relationships with schools and MATs across the country.  Informed by these conversations and your experience as a Senior Leader in a secondary school or MAT, you will lead the development of new PTI events and programmes, including professional development for schools overseas.

You will also develop teachers’ engagement with the PTI, creating a wider membership body including developing and producing resources and materials that reflect the nature and content of PTI courses.

For more information about the role, please download the Job Description and Person Specification, and visit www.princes-ti.org.uk to find out more about the charity.

The post is for January 2019 (or sooner).  The role is based in our office next to Victoria Station in London, and is a 12-month secondment that will need the support of your school in order for you to apply.

Please e-mail your PTI application form, CV and a covering letter to jobs@princes-ti.org.uk with "Head of Education Strategy & Development" in the subject line.

Applications must be received by 07.00 on Monday 25 June 2018 and interviews will take place on the morning of Thursday 28 June 2018 at the PTI office.

By putting subject-centred teaching at the heart of schools, The PTI (formerly The Prince’s Teaching Institute) inspires teachers to transform all students, whatever their background or ability. We have 12 years’ experience of helping teachers to re-discover their love of their subject, encouraging them to become more effective, enthusiastic and influential, and supporting them to make lasting improvements in what and how they teach. All of our events are led by practising teachers, and we bring teachers together with the country's best speakers and provide an effective forum for professional development. We do this through our unique subject-based support:

  • The Subject Leadership Programme: a membership scheme for secondary school departments committed to improving their teaching provision.  A subject leader in the department will have attended a Subject Enrichment Residential to form a part of this national subject-based network.
  • The Subject Enrichment Residentials: Three-day residential professional development courses for secondary subject leaders, including talks from Cambridge academics and leading speakers and teacher-led workshops, which enable subject leaders to consider their subject provision, share ideas and opt into the Schools Programme if they wish.
  • The School Leadership Programme: a membership scheme for primary and secondary schools which choose to undertake a school improvement programme focused on staff development, curriculum development or leadership
  • Leadership Residentials (primary and secondary): two day residentials for Headteachers and MAT System Leaders to consider what makes for excellent leadership in schools.  School Leaders who attend can opt into the Leadership Programme if they wish.
  • CPD Subject Days:  One-day professional development events held across the country, based on a single topic and led by practising teachers with leading academics and experts
  • New Teacher Subject Days: a programme of four Saturday courses for school-based trainee teachers and Newly Qualified Teachers, focusing on subject
  • The virtual Staffroom: a members-only area of website with teaching resources and podcasts.

The PTI’s networks and events are in English, History, Geography, Science, Mathematics, Modern Foreign Languages, Latin, Art and Music, as well as Leadership.   Every year, over 10% of schools in England and Wales will send a teacher to a PTI event, and we work in partnership with the University of Cambridge.
